Hunt Deltel was formed in 1937 by two prominent members of the local community, Percival Hunt and Alexandre Deltel. Michael King-Harman recalls:”When I joined the company it had only 6 employees, excluding Mr. Deltel.” -“it operated from an upstairs office opposite the Police station on the corner of Royal Street and Benezet St. The office was without electricity and Deltel would leave promptly at 1500 hrs each day”
The company initially Initially involved in the export of the island’s traditional commodities – copra and cinnamon – the company then expanded into a conventional colonnial trading company with agencies for vehicles, beverages and a wide range of commercial products. It also acted as insurance agents for Guardian Royal Exchange and correspondant bank for NatWest bank.
