On Friday, March 3, 2023, Mrs. Jourdane Ernesta, Chairman of the National Association for the Disabled, officially received a generous donation of 60 wheelchairs. These will be distributed to children on Mahé and Praslin, as well as the School for Exceptional Children.
The school has an immediate need for 14 wheelchairs to ensure students can fully participate in all school-related activities. In addition, the Ministry of Health will receive five wheelchairs to assist young patients in moving in and out of hospital facilities.
This initiative was spearheaded by Wheelchairs for Kids, a charity based in Perth, Australia, with the support of Australian businesses and NGOs who managed the transport of the wheelchairs from the manufacturer to Seychelles.
Once in Seychelles, the Seychelles Rotary Club partnered with Mason’s Travel and Hunt Deltel to facilitate the project. Express Logistics, a subsidiary of Hunt Deltel, assisted with clearance and transportation, while Hunt Deltel also made a financial contribution to the initiative.
This collaborative effort demonstrates the power of partnerships in improving the lives of children with disabilities and strengthening community support networks in Seychelles
